I wrote this poem whilst having a lovely 'writing' date with a dear friend whom I would like to thank for the inspiration! (Thank you Emily!) 
It's a poem about our love and hate relationship with the world and I hope you enjoy the read! ☺

                                      Scary World                                                                                            

The world is a scary place,

It will knock you, block you – you’ll give up the chase.

Every let down, every disappointment,

You see life as nothing but a pesky appointment.

When is enough, enough?

“I’m fine, I’m fine” – until you call your own bluff.

Are you tired of all the “why me’s”?

Exhausted, you fall to your knees.

What if I told you the world is a scary place,

But also a world blooming with grace.

Every time you look for the bad,

You forget and lose the greatness you had.

The universe has its reasons,

Just as the earth has its seasons.

Winter must storm so summer can form.

Stop looking for what’s wrong,

Be thankful, be strong.

The world will be scary and sometimes confusing,

But don’t be afraid, for life is not done choosing.

Make A Change

Hi Readers! It's LauraJane here. Happy New Year!! I have been off of the blog for the holidays but I am back now with this poem that I hope inspires you for 2018. I have always tried to make a difference in the world and want to encourage others to do so, it is very important. So here it is! Happy Reading :) 

'Make A Change' By LauraJane Bethune 

Life can be hard, it isn't fair,

Pain and suffering everywhere, 

But through this there is some light, 

We are all putting up a fight, 

To change the world and stop the bad, 

We need to do things that take away the sad, 

Donate blood, donate food, 

Be kind to others, don't be rude, 

Raise funds for those in need, 

It will always feel good to do a good deed, 

And don't forget about the animals too, 

They need help but they can't tell you,

Fight for their rights as much as your own, 

Their feelings also deserve to be known, 

And last but not least, the environment is key,

It is the reason we are here, you and me, 

Recycle and reuse everything you can, 

Let's lengthen the worlds shortening life span, 

Cut down on meat and reduce your waste, 

I know all these things might not be to your taste, 

But like it or not this needs to be done, 

We all must start to work as one, 

To help the world and all of us on it, 

To create happiness and save the planet.

Mrs Claus Can't Do It!

[Inspired by last years M&S Christmas advert and dedicated to my Mum, the Mrs Claus in my life who always makes Christmas special.]

Mrs Claus Can’t Do it

It was the 24^th of December, Christmas Eve. Parents all over the world were tucking in their excited little ones. Reading them a story and reminding them that they must go to sleep or Santa won’t come. The children shut their eyes, all dreaming of the morning ahead.

In the North Pole, however there was some panic. The sleigh was packed, the reindeer ready to fly but Santa was still in bed. Mrs Claus went in to check on him. “It is almost time to go dear, are you feeling okay?” Mrs Claus asked. Santa let out a big sneeze, ‘A-A-A-CHOOOOO!’. Santa was very sick.

Not wanting to let down the children he rolled out of bed and started to put on his suit. It was at this point Mrs Claus had an idea, she would deliver the presents so Santa could rest and all the children of the world could still have their Christmas dreams come true!

She sent Santa back to bed. “But you can’t do it Mrs Claus” said Santa. But Mrs Claus did not listen and put on her own red coat and boots and went out the door. Santa fell asleep, like I said he was very sick.

Mrs Claus went down to the worried elves, they all looked very muddled. “Where’s Santa?” asked Jasper the head elf. “Santa is very sick” Mrs Claus told the elves, “I am going to deliver the presents this year”. All the elves gasped and said, “But you can’t do it Mrs Claus”. Mrs Claus ignored the elves and got onto the sleigh. Waving goodbye, off Mrs Claus went to deliver Christmas to the world. “She won’t be able to do it” said Jasper, “Mrs Claus can't do it”.

As the reindeer flew from house to house, country to country, Mrs Claus went down each chimney and delivered all the gifts. “A bike for Penny, a book for John…” Mrs Claus said ticking the children off her list.  

The sack of presents almost empty she arrived at the last house. She parked the sleigh on the roof, went down the chimney and placed the last gift under the tree. When a little girl came down the stairs, “Santa?” the little girl gasped, surprised.

Mrs Claus was sad, Santa is not meant to be seen, she had broken the rules. But then she realised she was not Santa and she could do things the Mrs Claus way. So, she turned around to greet the girl.

“Hello sweetie, what’s your name?” Mrs Claus asked bending down. “I’m Holly, who are you?” she said looking confused. “I am Mrs Claus but you can call me Maggie. Santa wasn’t very well this Christmas so I am delivering the presents instead” Mrs Claus explained. “But you can’t do that Mrs Claus” said Holly. Mrs Claus reached out for the little girl’s hand and squeezed it tight. “Little, sweet Holly. Everyone tonight has been telling me that I can’t do what Santa does because I am not Santa I am Mrs Claus. But here I am, doing it. You can do anything if you believe in yourself and don’t let others tell you that you can’t do it. Promise me you will remember that” Mrs Claus told Holly. Holly smiled and gave Mrs Claus a big hug. “I promise Maggie. Merry Christmas”. Mrs Claus split the cookies and milk with Holly and then sent her back up to bed.

She grabbed her empty sack and the carrots that Holly had so kindly given her and went back up the chimney. She gave each reindeer a delicious carrot and then off they went as quick as a flash, back to the North Pole.

When they arrived back at the North Pole all the elves cheered and Santa now awake ran up to the sleigh and lifted Mrs Claus into the air. “Oh, Maggie I am sorry I ever doubted you! You have saved Christmas! You can do it!” Santa said before giving Mrs Claus a big hug and a kiss. “Thank you

dear” said Mrs Claus, “but all I needed was to believe in myself that’s what really matters”.  

1 year later Holly’s parents were tucking her in bed and took the same story they read every Christmas eve “Santa saves Christmas”. “No, Mummy I want to hear about Maggie” Holly told her parents. “Who is Maggie?” they asked confused. “Mrs Claus, she delivered the presents last year” explained Holly to her parents. Her parents still confused they tried to explain that it was Santa not Mrs Claus who delivered the presents, saying “Mrs Claus can’t do it”.

“You can do anything if you believe! Mrs Claus CAN do it!” said Holly. Closing her eyes, Holly began to think of all the things she wanted to do and as she fell into a deep sleep she whispered, 

“I can do it too!”.

The End

(Ella-Grace decided to have a long nap this morning so I managed to write this story. I was so hoping to write a Christmas story before the festive season was finished and with just over a week to go till Christmas I have managed it! I hope you all liked it. Let me know in the comments below.)

I'm not one to speak about feeling's- they make me cringe and want to curl up and possibly vomit haha! However with poems I enjoy putting feeling into them (and a lot of it!) It's good to show feeling's in which ever way you feel comfortable and for me that's in rhyme! My next poem is about school and some of the feelings that came along with it. My experience at school was not the best so apologies if this has no relations to you but I hope it's a good read either way. Enjoy and once again let me know what you think! 


The Ocean's School

Walking one by one in line

All of me I must refine

To succeed is to shine

I cannot glow in these conditions

Myself is my only competition

Told I am not trying

But miss I am complying

It’s weakness I am hiding.

Failure suffocates me, like I’m lost beneath the oceans pit

With all these expectations I cannot fit.

Today I no longer walk that wave

Today I am standing brave

Surround myself with the ocean’s charm

Watch the waves flow, now so calm.

Today I can shine, today is mine.

Born a Girl by LauraJane Bethune

"She wasn't looking for a knight, she was looking for a sword" - Atticus

The day is drawing to a close, my baby girl is in bed and I was feeling emotional. Turning that emotion into passion and putting something out there that will hopefully empower others and change things for the better, that is the best feeling. And to any Mother out there who too worries about the future of their little girl, don't worry things are changing. Equality is upon us as long as we teach it.

Born a Girl by LauraJane Bethune 

My baby was born of female gender,

I promise to teach her to not surrender,

She will be confident and she will be strong,

But unfortunately, her battle will likely be long,

Gender pay gap still very relevant,

Sexism is in the room, it is the elephant,

Women in general are underrated,

Sexist jokes need to be outdated,

I don’t want her to be told she can’t do,

She CAN do whatever she wants to,

Girls are in great danger of assault or abuse,

For this there is no excuse,

Our society must change and stop victim blaming,

This injustice is so very draining,

We must come together no matter who you are,

Look what we have done already, we have come so far,

But there is more to do, I want girls to have a better forthcoming,

This core value we need to get drumming,

Everyone should be equal no matter who they are,

Girl, boy, old, young, all,

My daughter was born a girl and I will teach her to stand tall.

Body Positive By Keely McAllan

I wrote this poem when entering a competition in Glasgow and really enjoyed writing it, and so I'd like to post it on here to share with you. Hope you enjoy the read and look out for more poems very soon! 

Body Positive by Keely McAllan

Can we only be body positive if we fit societies specifications,

I’m positive my body cannot reach these expectations,

This must change for our next generations.

Are my lumps and bumps okay?

Should I be wallowing in dismay?

Am I allowed to have scars and imperfections?

Does my body cry out for corrections?

Can I walk the streets with no fear?

do I look fat? is all I hear,

self-doubts, they all appear,

my confidence becomes unclear.

BUT

I’m positive we can change,

I’m positive our minds are but strange.

I’m positive our bodies are strong,

I’m positive I am not wrong.

My mind and your mind is the causative,

I know we can be body positive.
