Two friends. One Blog. Lots of Creativity.

Two Friends. One blog. Lots of Creativity

Our Friendship

Since we are starting a blog together before we even go into what this blog is about and who we are individually, we should probably tell you about our friendship. We met in college in 2013 (can't believe it was that long ago!) and we clicked straight away. We are very alike and over the years have grown closer and so have our partners. The double dates are just the best haha. We have supported and been there for each other through everything (pregnancy, having a baby, engagement, mental health, college, moving, birthdays, everything!). Our friendship is now long distance but that does not stop us visiting each other often and messaging almost daily. What better way to stay even more connected than writing a blog together. Sharing our creativity with not only each other but the world.

Hi. That's always a good way to start right? If readers from my personal blog have followed me here you will already know who I am but for new people or anyone finding this through Keely, I will introduce myself. My name is LauraJane, I am a 21 year old stay at home mum to my 8 month old daughter Ella-Grace, fiance to Reece and freelance writer (BabyGaGa.com, Adorethem.com)/mummy blogger. My personal blog laurajane20.blogspot.co.uk I started when I was pregnant. That is where I write about all things mother and baby related as well as just anything personal to me (mental health, favourite products, experiences etc.) but I had no where to put my creative writing. Short stories and poems (more short stories, poems are more Keely's forte). I have written since I was very young and I love writing them. After sharing a poll on my social media whether or not to share these the majority of my readers said Yes! I should share them. So I have decided to do just that in this new blog with one of my best friends, Keely McAllan.

[Keely]

Hello! Laura-Jane’s friend here! My names Keely , I’m 21 (nearly 22-I have to tell everyone that because it’s important okay) and I’m super excited to actually post my written pieces somewhere- will save me having to force my boyfriend to read them! I live in Edinburgh with my boyfriend and our two cats-we like to call them lovable monsters. I am currently unemployed due to my ‘fantastic’ ability in making impulsive decisions. I’m hoping to start a new job soon and can finally resume buying my daily chocolate-it’s been difficult. I have enjoyed writing since a young age and began submissions for writing competitions, yet to win any, but my new record is 7th place! Now here I am writing with my fabulous and talented friend whom is also an amazing mother might I add.
Hoping to dazzle you all with some poems and stories, thanks!

What we plan to write about?

When discussing starting our blog the name 'Let us tell you a story' fit perfectly! It does not lean to one subject meaning we can write about everything and anything we want to! From children's stories to adult fiction and poetry that could make you really think. There is no limit to our topics and creativity. If you would like to know what we usually write about/want to write about however here is an insight into that:

[LauraJane]

I personally would like to write stories that are a bit different. With having a daughter I often read her stories and they can be quite repetitive or have a common theme. For example many stories are of princesses that need saved or boys excelling at sport. Where there is nothing wrong with these stories obviously it would be nice to have a variety. Maybe the main character is disabled but still excelling at what they do, the hero is the girl, the boy wants to be a ballerina. All these stories I would love to write for our next generation to come to show there is no limit in what they can do and they do not have to stick to any stereotypes. That most likely being the stories for children as for adults I am not sure yet what my short stories will be about. I do like a story that has a moral, stories that will make you think, stories that surprise you or ones you have to figure out as your reading. Poetry from me might be a while away as I don't think I have mastered that yet but I will keep working on it. I am open to suggestions or if there is a particular story you would like written I can see if I could do that. A story specifically for your child? A genre of story you would like to read as an adult let me know. For now I am working on a Christmas story sure to fill you with the Christmas spirit, watch this space!

[Keely]

When I write I never normally have the full idea in my head, I think of a basis/subject and then cut and change where I think suits. My writing will range from inspiring to crude and all that's in between. I enjoy writing poems as they can convey a lot in such a short piece- and I love a rhyme!
I will start with posting poems, however would love to go on to write stories and figure out my favourite genre and style. If you need a poem, maybe for your loved ones card at Christmas or even a rudely, funny one for your annoying sibling then ask away, I'd be more than happy! Look forward to sharing my (hopefully well written) poems and stories.
